Different areas of construction have different priorities when it comes to fire resistance. The user wants high return insulation, but the constructor wants low cost products. Yet insurance companies insist fire safety is paramount - we all have to contend with new demands, new regulations, environment and standards.
Specifiers and architects have to be aware that these important considerations need to be made as early as possible in the design process.
Rigid insulation boards have good fire resistance qualities. They does not melt or smoulder and only starts to disintegrate after 250 degrees Celsius.
The specific application of insulation within a construction determines the final fire resistance qualities.
In general insulation material is not exposed to heat or naked flames within a building. In a cavity wall for example the fire resistance qualities play no part, because cavity walls are enclosed from the naked flame.
