EcoTherm's energy saving roof insulation is in pole position as part of Silverstone's new Pit and Paddock Complex ‘The Wing’. Over 10,000m2 of Eco-Felt roof board from EcoTherm's polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation range provided high performance insulation for the roof of the 350m x 27m building, which features a dynamic roof design with rises, falls and flares to reflect the speed and movement of a motorsport circuit. Eco-Felt insulation, supplied by Building Innovation, was installed by Kent-based 5M (UK) within a fully bonded roof construction.
The £30 million development at Silverstone will ensure that teams and sponsors are provided with world-class facilities, including a new race control building, media centre and VIP spectator zones. EcoTherm's 100mm Eco-Felt roof board provides the ideal insulation solution for the prestigious project, says Michael Bourne, Joint Managing Director of 5M (UK). He comments, "Eco-Felt PIR board delivers high insulation values and the bitumen coating on one side makes it compatible with the roof's solvent-based, polyurethane membrane, which is a liquid system that's ideal for coating this type of complex roof shape". The Eco-Felt roof boards were fully bonded to an 85mm deck and vapour control layer.
EcoTherm Eco-Felt is a multi-purpose roof board suitable for built-up felt roofing and asphalt applications. It is available in thicknesses ranging from 30mm to 200mm: the100mm board specified for the Silverstone project has an 'R' value of 4m2k/W. Eco-Felt is available in 600mm x 1200mm size boards that can be laid in a variety of patterns.
