EcoTherm® has made its popular Eco-Deck insulated decking board for flat roofs even more eco-friendly by switching from a plywood facing to Oriented Strand Board (OSB) - a highly sustainable wood-based board that is structurally engineered for extra strength and consistent performance. EcoTherm® claims that Eco-Deck is currently the only insulated composite decking board on the market that is certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) - making it the only roof deck that can be used on public sector contracts which specify FSC as standard, and a major benefit in the bid for greener buildings throughout the construction industry. Eco-Deck is designed by EcoTherm® to provide a roof decking and insulation solution in one cost-effective application - decking and insulating in one action also reduces the time that a roof is exposed.
OSB is manufactured from strands of timber that are laid in cross directional layers and mechanically pressed under heat to form a strong structural panel with no gaps or knot holes. The wood is collected from small trees that are removed to allow bigger trees in the forest to grow, which assists the growth and sustainability of the trees, plants and wildlife.
EcoTherm®’s OSB-faced Eco-Deck is compatible with most built-up roofing membranes for flat roofs in residential and commercial buildings. The new OSB board is laminated to Eco-Deck’s polyisocyanurate (PIR) thin foam core - delivering maximum insulation for minimum thickness - and an aluminium foil bottom face. This combination produces a simple yet effective insulated roof deck that is quick and easy to install and has the added assurance of being legally and sustainably produced - an essential requirement for many large commercial and public sector contracts.
Eco-Deck roof boards have standard dimensions of 2,400 x 1,200mm and are available in thicknesses up to 116mm according to insulation requirements. Eco-Deck panels are supplied ready to fix and finish using basic tools and traditional roofing techniques. The deck then forms a surface ready for built-up felt, asphalt, or single ply membrane. Eco-Deck roof board offers a thermal resistance (‘R’ value) of 3.96m2K/W.
Commenting on this latest enhancement to its range of PIR Rigid Thermal Insulation Boards, Dale Kaszycki, EcoTherm®’s Marketing Manager says: “This reflects our continuing commitment to use only the most eco-friendly components in the manufacture of our products in order to meet increasingly stringent sustainability standards in the modern building industry.”
With production facilities across Europe, and a brand new high-capacity line at its plant in Essex, EcoTherm® supplies its product range in the UK through insulation distributors and builders’ merchants nationwide.
